The Eastchester EMS Bike Team is established to provide rapid medical response and EMS support at public events, community functions, standby assignments, and other incidents where bicycle deployment improves access and response times.

Bike Assignments & Equipment
Eastchester EMS currently operates three (3) bicycles configured as follows:
57-Bike 1
Basic BLS equipment, airway equipment, trauma supplies, an oxygen cylinder, and an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
57-Bike 2
Basic BLS equipment, airway equipment, trauma supplies, an oxygen cylinder, and an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
57-Bike 3
Equipment configuration to be determined based on operational needs.
All assigned equipment must be checked prior to deployment to ensure operational readiness and proper stock levels. → Run the bag check

Training Requirements
Members assigned to the Bike Team must successfully complete department-approved bike training prior to deployment.
Training shall include, but is not limited to:
Safe bicycle operation
Emergency response riding
Event operations
Radio communications
Equipment familiarization
Officers may require refresher training or evaluations as needed.

Membership Requirements
Members assigned to the Eastchester EMS Bike Team shall meet the following requirements:
Must be an active, cleared EMT in good standing.
Must successfully complete the department Bike Team training prior to deployment.
Must demonstrate the ability to safely operate a bicycle in crowded and emergency-response environments.
Must maintain professional conduct and appearance and wear appropriate uniform while representing Eastchester EMS.
Must be capable of carrying and operating assigned medical equipment.
Members may be removed from the Bike Team at the discretion of the Chief for safety concerns, misconduct, or failure to comply with Bike Team policies and procedures.

Deployment
The Bike Team should be present at all public events, standby details, and large gatherings whenever staffing and operational needs permit.
Bike Team assignments may include public relations events, community outreach, athletic events, parades, fairs, and other special operations.

Uniform Requirements
While assigned to the Bike Team, members shall wear the approved Bike Team uniform consisting of:

Uniforms shall be maintained in a clean and professional manner at all times.

Radio Communications
All Bike Team members must carry a portable radio while deployed.
Members shall remain on the assigned operational channel unless otherwise directed by an officer or event lead.
Members are responsible for maintaining radio communications and responding promptly to assignments.

Event Operations
During events, Bike Team personnel and bicycles shall remain within the assigned event area unless directed otherwise by an Officer.
Members shall remain available for immediate response throughout the duration of the assignment.
Bike Team members shall maintain a professional appearance and conduct themselves appropriately while representing Eastchester EMS.

Safety
Helmets shall be worn at all times while operating bicycles.
Members shall operate bicycles in a safe and controlled manner with due regard for pedestrians, vehicle traffic, and surrounding conditions.
Unsafe operation may result in removal from the Bike Team.

Patient Contact & Medical Response
On contact
Upon being flagged down or encountering a medical emergency, Bike Team members shall initiate immediate triage and patient assessment, then determine whether the patient will be treated as a Refusal of Medical Assistance (RMA).
If RMA
Contact 60 Control to obtain an additional run number.
Advise that you do not need the 57 Medics or an ambulance.
If not RMA
Contact 60 Control for:

— An ambulance
Bike Team members shall remain with the patient and continue patient care until relieved by responding EMS personnel or transported by an EMS unit.
